When you beat the doppleganger you get 50,000 exp as a mission reward. Most of the time this is enough for anyone not already lvl 20 to reach lvl 20. And yes, you'll get all the attribute/skill points for those levels.
....and no I really don't think a level 1-10 (even with Drok's armor) would survive. The dopple hits pretty hard. |

The dopple is your mirror, he uses what you use... I think (only beat him once) that he is at your lv to with the same states... I could be wrong. But yeah... most people are lv 15-18 by the time they hit the desert already though I do see (and was myself) lv 20 a bit to. And since 15000 exp is all thats needed to get a skill point after lv 20, thats 3 skill points for beating your mirror.

Yes he only mirrors your skills, he uses a bow for ranged attacks and usually a axe for melee, not really a mirror of your char more of a mirror of skills.

Additionally, as far as I can tell, the mirror somehow has enough attribute points to support full damage with a bow and with an axe, as well as a mimic of your own attribute point distribution.
Not really a mirror IMHO. |

a necro could do it at low levels
Actually, a necromancer could probably beat their doppelganger at fairly low levels if they stocked up on useless life sacrifice skills on the way there, especially if the mirror opens with Awaken the Blood & Demonic Flesh.
A good lineup would be: Awaken the Blood Demonic Flesh Dark Aura Dark Fury* Offering of Blood* Enfeebling Blood Malaise *skills that are difficult to acquire before fighting your mirror |

the doppelganger is not your mirror, he is your shadow.
also...you could quite easily take him out with a low level ranger(bring all spirits and watch him cast) a necromancer(bring all sacrifice skills and stand there and watch him suicide) and as a monk(run a 55 build)...I don't know how difficult it would be as a mesmer, ele, or warrior though |

When I ascended my necro, I carried much of the same list. Granted, the mirror did hurt themselves significantly with the sacrifice spells, I found that the best way to augment the killing was by bringing hex breaker and backfire. I cast hex breaker prior to entering the mission, and backfired the mirror immediately. The mirror did eventually kill itself against backfire and sacrificing. However, it did not cast all the sacrificing skills in a chain, like I'd hoped. The fight lasted about 30-40 seconds, much longer than I'd wanted, meaning that I had to backfire again. There are threads covering builds showing what works and doesn't work against the mirror. |

When I ascended my necro a couple weeks ago I had a b*tch of a time, and I followed the standard advice of bringing all sacrifice spells, useless self buffs, and using backfire. I think they improved the AI, because the doppel barely used any spells and didn't use any buffs.
He always got his backfire off before me so I couldn't steal life back without killing myself. If I brought life siphon or vampire gaze he would use it first and kill me even faster. If I ran around he pegged me with his bow, even through walls. What finally worked was backfire + chaos storm since the AI is too dumb to move out of it. Still, it took me several minutes and I barely survived because his bow outranged me and hit me through walls. That mission is the stupidest of the lot IMO. There is no skill involved, you just have to find the right build that exploits the weaknesses of the AI: the AI is faster than you but too dumb to move out of AoE spells or hold off casting against backfire. I thought of one other possibility: bring a sword and shield and slug it out toe-to-toe. Your shield should give you an armor advantage. I didn't have one to test this out though... and I think all high damage weapons have a mastery requirement so that wouldn't help anyone but warriors. So you are stuck with a low damage weapon and shield... ugh. |
